This course has no entry requirements, however the learner must be employed and have access to an on-site working environment in order to satisfy the Onsite Assessment and Training (OSAT) element of the Diploma qualification.

In order to gain this qualification, you must achieve ALL 4 MANDATORY UNITS, as well as AT LEAST 1 UNIT FROM OPTIONAL GROUP A, plus AT LEAST 2 UNITS FROM OPTIONAL GROUPS B-F or 1 UNIT FROM OPTIONAL GROUP G.

OPTIONAL GROUP A:

  • Clearing the Site and Handing Over on Completion
  • Erecting and Dismantling Access/Working Platforms
  • Installing, Maintaining and Removing Work Area Protection and Safety Equipment

OPTIONAL GROUP B – MAINTENANCE CARPENTRY & JOINERY:

  • Maintaining Non-Structural Carpentry Work
  • Maintaining Non-Structural or Structural Components
  • Repairing, Replacing and Renewing Gates, Posts and Fencing

OPTIONAL GROUP C – MAINTENANCE PAINTING & DECORATING:

  • Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating
  • Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller
  • Hanging Standard Paper Wallcoverings

OPTIONAL GROUP D – MAINTENANCE TILING:

  • Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating
  • Removing and Renewing Floor Screeds
  • Tiling Wall and Floor Structures

OPTIONAL GROUP E – MAINTENANCE PLASTERING:

  • Applying Finishing Plaster to Prepared Surfaces
  • Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating

OPTIONAL GROUP F – MAINTENANCE ROOFING:

  • Maintaining Slate and Tile Roofing
  • Removing and Repairing Eaves and Verge Finishings
  • Repairing Membrane Roofing Systems
  • Repairing Sheeting and Cladding Systems on Roofs and Walls (Including Rainscreen)

OPTIONAL GROUP G – MAINTENANCE TROWEL OPERATIONS:

  • Repairing Basic Stonemasonry Structures
  • Repairing and Maintaining Masonry Structures

The TOTAL QUALIFICATION TIME (TQT) for this Award is 620 hours, including a minimum of 270 GUIDED LEARNING HOURS (GLH).

*GLH = time spent carrying out activities under the immediate guidance or supervision of a lecturer, supervisor or tutor, including assessment if under supervision.

*TQT = GLH + preparation, study or other learning activities directed by, but not under the immediate guidance of, a lecturer, supervisor or tutor.

You will be assessed by a qualified assessor against a set of performance and knowledge statements derived from National Occupational Standards’ Recommended Qualification Structure (RQS) for the Level 2 NVQ in Building Maintenance Multi-Trade Repair & Refurbishment Operations (Construction).

Under instruction from your assessor, you are required to produce a Portfolio of Evidence showing how you have met the performance and knowledge criteria for each unit within the qualification.

Successful completion of this Diploma means you pass the training requirements to apply for a Blue (Skilled Worker) CSCS Card
